Types of crankshaft anti-rust oil film and the necessity of removing it

Nov 08, 2024|

1.Hard oil film
Hard oil film is ideal for long-term protection of crankshafts. It is usually yellow or light brown, forms a thicker coating, and is hard to the touch. The composition of hard oil film includes resin and wax, which can resist oxidation, moisture and environmental corrosion, so it is very suitable for crankshafts that need to be stored for a long time. However, because hard oil film is relatively hard, its removal requires the use of solvents, alkaline cleaning agents or heating softening.

2.Soft oil film
Soft oil film is usually colorless and transparent or light yellow, and the film layer formed is thin, soft and easy to wipe, which is suitable for short-term rust prevention. Soft oil film uses light oil components and contains a small amount of anti-corrosion additives. It is mainly used for short-term protection of crankshafts between processes. This type of oil film is easier to remove. Generally, it can be removed by simply wiping or using a mild cleaning agent, which is convenient for subsequent operations.

1.Ensure lubrication effect

After the crankshaft is installed, lubricants such as engine oil are needed to reduce friction, and the residual anti-rust oil film may affect the normal distribution of the lubricant. Removing the oil film can ensure the lubrication effect and avoid wear, heat and performance degradation caused by improper lubrication.

2.Maintain assembly accuracy

3.Prevent impurities from contaminating

The anti-rust oil film may absorb impurities such as dust and metal chips during storage. If these oil films are not removed, the impurities may enter the bearings or sliding surfaces, causing abnormal wear and accelerating the aging of the crankshaft.

4.Avoid high temperature residue
